Where to Stay Near Seoul Station: 12 Best Hotels for Every Budget (2026 Guide)
Planning to stay near Seoul Station?
If you’re arriving from Incheon Airport, catching an early KTX to Busan, or planning to explore several cities during your trip, choosing a hotel near Seoul Station can make your travels far easier.
After living in Korea and taking the KTX regularly, I’ve come to appreciate just how convenient the Seoul Station area really is. After one too many early mornings hauling a suitcase across multiple subway lines, I realized that staying within walking distance of the station can save travelers a surprising amount of time and stress.
Most first-time visitors automatically book hotels in Myeongdong, Hongdae, or Gangnam, but Seoul Station is one of the city’s most underrated places to stay. As Korea’s largest transportation hub, it connects the AREX airport train, KTX high-speed rail, multiple subway lines, buses, and taxis all in one place. That means you can arrive from Incheon Airport, check into your hotel within minutes, and easily explore both Seoul and the rest of the country without constantly moving your luggage.
The neighborhood itself has changed dramatically over the years. What was once simply a transport hub is now home to stylish hotels, rooftop bars, excellent cafés, and some surprisingly good restaurants. You’re also within walking distance of Namdaemun Market, Seoullo 7017, Myeongdong, and even N Seoul Tower if you don’t mind a bit of an uphill walk.
Whether you’re visiting Seoul for the first time, planning a multi-city Korea itinerary, or simply want the easiest airport connection, staying near Seoul Station is one of the smartest choices you can make.
In this guide, I’ll help you decide if Seoul Station is the right area for your trip, recommend the best hotels for every budget and travel style, and share my favorite tips for making the most of this incredibly convenient part of the city.
Quick Answer: Is Seoul Station a Good Area to Stay?
Yes—especially if convenience is your top priority.
Seoul Station is one of the best places to stay in Seoul if you:
✔ Plan to travel around Korea by KTX
✔ Want the easiest connection to Incheon Airport via the AREX train
✔ Have an early morning train or flight
✔ Are visiting multiple cities like Busan, Gyeongju, or Jeonju
✔ Prefer excellent public transportation
✔ Don’t want to drag your luggage across Seoul
While it doesn’t have the nightlife of Hongdae or the shopping streets of Myeongdong right outside your hotel, few neighborhoods can match Seoul Station for convenience. You’ll still be within walking distance of attractions like Namdaemun Market, Seoullo 7017, and Myeongdong, while enjoying one of the best-connected transport hubs in the country.
Why Should You Stay Near Seoul Station?
If convenience ranks high on your travel wish list, it’s hard to beat Seoul Station.
As Korea’s largest transportation hub, almost every major form of transport passes through here. Whether you’re arriving from Incheon Airport, catching a KTX to Busan, or simply exploring Seoul by subway, staying nearby means you’ll spend less time navigating the city with your luggage and more time enjoying your trip.
Since living in Korea, I’ve found myself using Seoul Station constantly—whether I’m heading out of Seoul for a weekend trip or meeting friends arriving from overseas.
It’s also a surprisingly enjoyable part of Seoul to stay in. While many travelers think of it as just a transport hub, the surrounding area has plenty to offer, from traditional markets and rooftop bars to cafés, scenic walking paths, and some of the city’s most famous attractions.
Here are the biggest reasons I recommend staying near Seoul Station.
Ride the KTX Across Korea
One of the biggest advantages of staying here is having Korea’s high-speed rail network right on your doorstep.
Instead of setting an alarm an hour earlier and dragging your suitcase across Seoul, you can simply walk to the station and board your train.
Popular destinations include:
- Busan
- Gyeongju
- Daegu
- Daejeon
- Suwon
- Jeonju (with one transfer)
If you’re planning a multi-city Korea itinerary, staying near Seoul Station can save you a surprising amount of time and hassle.
The Easiest Airport Transfer in Seoul
Seoul Station is the city terminus for the AREX (Airport Railroad Express), making it one of the most convenient places to stay if you’re flying into or out of Incheon International Airport.
You have two options:
- AREX Express – A non-stop service between Incheon Airport and Seoul Station in around 45 minutes.
- AREX All Stop Train – A more affordable option that serves additional stations along the route.
After a long-haul flight, being able to hop on one train and walk straight to your hotel is a luxury you’ll quickly appreciate.
Excellent Public Transportation
Even if you’re not leaving Seoul, you’ll have no trouble getting around.
Seoul Station is served by:
- Subway Line 1
- Subway Line 4
- The AREX
- Dozens of city bus routes
- Plenty of taxis at any time of day
Most major attractions—including Myeongdong, Dongdaemun, Insadong, Hongdae, and Itaewon—are either a direct ride or just one easy transfer away.
💛 Linda’s Tip
If you’re planning to visit more than one city during your trip, I’d seriously consider staying near Seoul Station.
Being able to roll your suitcase straight onto the KTX in the morning—or walk a couple of minutes to the AREX after a long flight—makes traveling around Korea so much less stressful. It’s one of those small decisions that can make your entire itinerary feel smoother.

For most visitors, the location alone makes this hotel worth considering.
Why I Like It
I’ve passed this hotel countless times on my way to catch the KTX, and its location is exactly why I recommend it so highly to travelers.
Being able to leave the airport on the AREX, walk a couple of minutes to your hotel, and then do the same in reverse when it’s time to head home takes so much of the stress out of traveling. The same goes for early morning KTX departures—you can simply roll your suitcase across the street instead of navigating busy subway stations.
The hotel itself is exactly what you’d expect from a Marriott property. The rooms are modern, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet considering you’re opposite one of Korea’s busiest transport hubs. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer fantastic city views, while the beds are comfortable enough to recover from a long flight or prepare for the next leg of your journey.
It’s also a great base for sightseeing. Namdaemun Market, Seoullo 7017, and Myeongdong are all within walking distance, so you don’t have to rely on public transport for every outing.
Getting Around
| Destination | Approximate Travel Time |
|---|---|
| Seoul Station | 8-minute walk |
| AREX Airport Train | 8-minute walk |
| Namdaemun Market | 10-minute walk |
| Myeongdong | 15–20-minute walk |
| Incheon Airport | Around 45–50 minutes by AREX Express |
For anyone planning a multi-city itinerary, it’s difficult to find a more convenient base in Seoul.
Pros & Cons
Pros
✅ Directly opposite Seoul Station
✅ Easy access to KTX and AREX
✅ Modern, comfortable rooms
✅ Excellent breakfast buffet
✅ Reliable Marriott service
Cons
❌ More expensive than some nearby hotels
❌ Limited leisure facilities compared to larger luxury hotels
Linda’s Take
If someone asked me where to stay near Seoul Station without giving me any other information, this would be my recommendation.
Is it the cheapest hotel in the area? No.
Is it the most luxurious? Also no.
But it’s the hotel that gets the balance right. The location is hard to beat, the rooms are consistently comfortable, and having Seoul’s biggest transport hub right across the road makes the start and end of your trip so much easier.
For most travelers, that’s worth paying a little extra for.
Best Hotels Near Seoul Station
Whether you’re looking for luxury, family friendly accommodations, or an affordable place to sleep before catching the KTX, these are my favorite hotels near Seoul Station.
2. ENA Suite Hotel Namdaemun ★★★★
Best For
- Families
- Couples
- Longer stays
- Travelers wanting extra space
If you’re looking for spacious rooms without paying luxury hotel prices, ENA Suite Hotel Namdaemun is one of the best-value options near Seoul Station. It’s particularly worth considering for families, couples with lots of luggage, or anyone staying in Seoul for more than just a night or two.
The biggest advantage here is space. Hotel rooms in central Seoul can be surprisingly compact, especially in popular areas like Myeongdong. ENA Suite offers larger room categories, including suites, so you have more room to unpack, organize your luggage, and relax after a full day of sightseeing. That extra breathing room can make a huge difference if you’re traveling with children.
Another highlight is the indoor swimming pool, which isn’t something you’ll find at every mid-range hotel in central Seoul. It’s a particularly nice bonus for families and can be a lifesaver if you’re traveling with kids who somehow still have energy after walking around Seoul all day. Just keep in mind that pool access and operating conditions can vary, so it’s worth checking the current details for your stay.
Location-wise, ENA Suite puts you around the City Hall and Namdaemun area, giving you convenient access to Namdaemun Market, Deoksugung Palace, and central Seoul. Myeongdong is also within easy reach, so you can enjoy the shopping and restaurants there without necessarily sleeping right in the middle of its busiest streets.
The trade-off is that ENA Suite isn’t as convenient for Seoul Station as Four Points. If you’re catching a very early KTX or want the shortest possible walk after arriving on the AREX, I’d still choose Four Points. But if you’re willing to trade a little transportation convenience for more space, family-friendly facilities, and strong value, ENA Suite becomes a very attractive alternative.
Pros
✅ Spacious, modern rooms and suites
✅ Indoor swimming pool
✅ Particularly good for families
✅ A short walk from Namdaemun and City Hall
✅ More space than many similarly priced central Seoul hotels
✅ Strong option for stays of several nights
Cons
❌ Not as close to Seoul Station as the top pick
❌ Less convenient if you have a very early KTX departure
❌ Fewer on-site dining choices than larger full-service hotels
Distance to Seoul Station: Allow approximately 10 to 15 minutes on foot, depending on your route and which station entrance you’re using.
Best reason to book: Book this one if you want more room to spread out, especially when traveling as a family, while still staying within easy reach of Seoul Station and central Seoul.
3. Sotetsu Hotels The Splaisir Seoul Myeongdong ★★★★
Best For
- Couples
- First-time visitors
- Value seekers
- Travelers who want easy access to Myeongdong
If you want to stay within easy reach of Seoul Station, Namdaemun, and Myeongdong, Sotetsu Hotels The Splaisir Seoul Myeongdong offers a great balance of location, comfort, and value.
Part of Japan’s Sotetsu hotel group, the hotel has contemporary rooms that make good use of the available space. They’re not especially large, but comfortable beds and practical layouts make this a good choice for couples and travelers who plan to spend most of their days exploring Seoul.
The location is the real selling point. You’ll be close to City Hall and Namdaemun Market, while Myeongdong’s shopping streets, restaurants, and seemingly endless supply of Korean skincare are also within walking distance. City Hall Station and Hoehyeon Station give you additional subway options, and the hotel also has a 24-hour fitness gym.
Compared with Four Points, I wouldn’t choose The Splaisir specifically for an early KTX departure. Instead, it makes more sense if you want to balance transportation convenience with shopping, sightseeing, and dining.
For first-time visitors who want a comfortable four-star stay without paying luxury-hotel prices, it’s a strong all-around choice.
Pros
✅ Well positioned for Myeongdong, Namdaemun, and City Hall
✅ Contemporary, efficiently designed rooms
✅ 24-hour fitness gym
✅ Multiple subway stations nearby
✅ Good value for a four-star hotel
Cons
❌ Rooms can feel compact with large suitcases
❌ Not as convenient for KTX travelers as hotels immediately around Seoul Station
Distance to Seoul Station: Allow approximately 15 to 20 minutes on foot, depending on your route.
Best reason to book: This is my pick for convenient access to both central Seoul sightseeing and Myeongdong without paying luxury-hotel prices.
4. Hotel Manu ★★★★
Best For
- Couples
- Solo travelers
- Sightseeing
- Travelers who prefer a smaller hotel
Hotel Manu has always been one of my favorite hotels near Seoul Station because it combines a great location with good value without feeling like a big business hotel.
One of its biggest advantages is its location beside Seoullo 7017, Seoul’s elevated pedestrian walkway. This makes it easy to walk toward Seoul Station and Namdaemun Market while avoiding some of the busy roads at street level. Myeongdong is also within walking distance, so it’s a particularly convenient base if you plan to explore central Seoul on foot.
The rooms are modern, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, although they can feel compact if you’re traveling with several large suitcases. Hotel Manu also has fewer facilities than some of the larger four-star hotels on this list, but that’s unlikely to matter if you’ll be spending most of your days sightseeing.
What I like most about Hotel Manu is its balance. You’re close enough to Seoul Station for KTX and airport connections, but you also have Namdaemun, Namsan, and Myeongdong within easy reach. For couples and solo travelers who value location over resort-style facilities, it’s an easy hotel to recommend.
Pros
✅ Excellent location near Seoullo 7017
✅ Within easy reach of Seoul Station and Namdaemun Market
✅ Comfortable, modern rooms
✅ Great for exploring central Seoul on foot
✅ Good value
Cons
❌ Rooms can feel compact with larger luggage
❌ Fewer facilities than larger hotels
Distance to Seoul Station: Around 5 to 10 minutes on foot, depending on your route and station entrance.
Best reason to book: Go with Hotel Manu if you want a smaller, comfortable hotel within easy walking distance of Seoul Station, Namdaemun, and some of central Seoul’s best sightseeing.
5. Fraser Place Namdaemun ★★★★
Best For
- Families
- Longer stays
- Business travelers
- Travelers wanting more space
If you’re staying in Seoul for more than a few nights, Fraser Place Namdaemun is well worth considering, especially if you’d rather have a little more room than you typically get in a central Seoul hotel.
The property offers spacious residence-style accommodations, with several room categories designed to feel comfortable for longer stays. That extra space makes Fraser Place particularly appealing to families, couples with plenty of luggage, and travelers who don’t want to spend a week squeezing around suitcases in a tiny hotel room.
The location is another big plus. You’ll be close to Namdaemun Market, City Hall, and Deoksugung Palace, with Myeongdong also within walking distance. Seoul Station is a little farther away than it is from Four Points or Hotel Manu, but it’s still convenient enough if you’re planning to use the KTX or AREX during your trip.
After a long day of sightseeing, the hotel’s sauna and fitness facilities are nice extras. The area around the hotel also tends to feel calmer than Myeongdong, which can be a welcome change when you’re ready to call it a night.
I’d choose Fraser Place over some of the smaller hotels on this list if space and comfort matter more to you than being right beside Seoul Station. For a longer stay in particular, that extra breathing room can be worth the additional walk.
Pros
✅ Spacious residence-style accommodations
✅ Excellent for longer stays
✅ Sauna and fitness facilities
✅ Convenient for Namdaemun, City Hall, and Deoksugung Palace
✅ Quieter location than Myeongdong
Cons
❌ Not as close to Seoul Station as Four Points or Hotel Manu
❌ Some travelers may prefer a more central Myeongdong location for nightlife and shopping
Distance to Seoul Station: Allow approximately 10 to 15 minutes on foot, depending on your route.
Best reason to book: Fraser Place stands out for more space and a quieter base for a longer Seoul stay while remaining within easy reach of Seoul Station and central Seoul.
6. Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Myeongdong ★★★★
Best For
- Business travelers
- Marriott Bonvoy members
- Couples
- Travelers wanting an upscale stay
If you prefer the comfort and consistency of an international hotel brand, Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Myeongdong is one of the more upscale options on this list.
The hotel combines modern rooms and polished Marriott service with an excellent location near Namdaemun Market and Myeongdong. You’re also within reach of Seoul Station, making it convenient if your trip includes a KTX journey or airport transfer without requiring you to stay directly beside the station.
Rooms are contemporary and comfortable, and some offer views toward Namdaemun and N Seoul Tower. There’s also a fitness center, MoMo Cafe, and several on-site dining options, making this a good choice if you appreciate having more hotel facilities at your fingertips.
It’s more expensive than several nearby alternatives, but that premium may be worth paying if you’re a Marriott Bonvoy member, traveling for business, or simply want a more polished stay.
Pros
✅ Modern, comfortable rooms
✅ Reliable Marriott service
✅ Fitness center and on-site dining
✅ Great location for Namdaemun and Myeongdong
Cons
❌ Higher room rates than many nearby hotels
❌ Not as close to Seoul Station as Four Points or Hotel Manu
Distance to Seoul Station: Allow approximately 15 minutes on foot, depending on your route.
Best reason to book: Courtyard is worth the upgrade if you want Marriott comfort and upscale facilities while staying close to Namdaemun, Myeongdong, and Seoul Station.
7. L’Escape, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Seoul Myeongdong ★★★★★
Best For
- Couples
- Honeymoons
- Boutique luxury
- Special occasions
If you’re after a hotel with personality, L’Escape is easily one of the most distinctive stays on this list. Now part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection, it’s a great choice when you want your hotel to feel like part of the Seoul experience rather than simply somewhere to sleep.
Inspired by 19th-century Paris and the French Belle Époque, the hotel embraces rich colors, velvet furnishings, dramatic lighting, and wonderfully lavish interiors. The romantic atmosphere continues into the guest rooms, making this an especially fun pick for honeymoons, anniversaries, or a special weekend in Seoul.
The location near Hoehyeon Station and Namdaemun Market also puts you between Seoul Station and Myeongdong, with plenty of shopping, restaurants, and sightseeing nearby. You’ll find restaurants and bars inside the hotel too, so there’s plenty of temptation to stay in for the evening.
It costs more than most hotels on this list, but if you’re looking for boutique luxury with plenty of character, L’Escape is hard to forget.
Pros
✅ Stunning Belle Époque-inspired interiors
✅ Romantic atmosphere
✅ Part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection
✅ Excellent restaurants and bars
Cons
❌ More expensive than most nearby options
❌ Dramatic décor won’t appeal to everyone
Distance to Seoul Station: Allow approximately 15 minutes on foot, depending on your route.
Best reason to book: L’Escape is the splurge pick for a romantic luxury hotel with serious personality while remaining within walking distance of Seoul Station, Namdaemun, and Myeongdong.
8. Hotel Gracery Seoul ★★★★
Best For
- Couples
- Solo travelers
- First-time visitors
- Travelers who appreciate Japanese-style hotel design
Hotel Gracery Seoul is a great choice if you value cleanliness, thoughtful room design, and a central location. Operated by a Japanese hotel group, it brings many of the practical little touches you’d expect from a Japanese-style city hotel to the heart of Seoul.
Rooms are compact but cleverly designed, with comfortable beds and particularly well-equipped bathrooms. One standout feature is the separate bathtub and toilet setup found in the rooms, which is a surprisingly nice luxury after spending all day walking around Seoul.
Location is another strength. The hotel is close to City Hall, Namdaemun Market, and Deoksugung Palace, while Myeongdong is also within walking distance. Seoul Station is a little farther away, so I wouldn’t choose this specifically for an early KTX departure, but it’s an excellent base if sightseeing is your main priority.
For first-time visitors who want a reliable, comfortable hotel in central Seoul, Hotel Gracery is an easy recommendation.
Pros
✅ Thoughtfully designed, comfortable rooms
✅ Separate bathtub and toilet
✅ Excellent location near City Hall and Namdaemun
✅ Great for central Seoul sightseeing
Cons
❌ Standard rooms are fairly compact
❌ Fewer facilities than larger full-service hotels
Distance to Seoul Station: Allow approximately 15 to 20 minutes on foot, depending on your route.
Best reason to book: Hotel Gracery works especially if you appreciate thoughtful Japanese-style room design and want to be close to Namdaemun, City Hall, and central Seoul sightseeing.
9. ibis Styles Ambassador Seoul Myeongdong ★★★
Best For
- Budget travelers
- Couples
- Weekend breaks
If you’re looking for a reliable international hotel at a more affordable price, ibis Styles Ambassador Seoul Myeongdong is a solid option, especially if you want to be closer to the action in Myeongdong.
Rooms are bright, modern, and functional, although they’re definitely on the compact side. The hotel is also known for its rooftop terrace with views toward N Seoul Tower, which is a nice bonus at this price point.
Location-wise, this one makes more sense if Myeongdong is your priority and you’ll only use Seoul Station occasionally. I would choose it if you want easy access to Myeongdong’s shopping, restaurants, and street food while keeping Seoul Station within reasonable reach.
Pros
✅ Affordable rates
✅ Rooftop views toward N Seoul Tower
✅ Excellent location for Myeongdong
✅ Reliable international brand
Cons
❌ Rooms are quite small
❌ Less convenient for KTX travelers
Distance to Seoul Station: Around 20 to 25 minutes on foot, or a short subway or taxi ride.
Best reason to book: Pick ibis Styles when you want an affordable, modern hotel closer to Myeongdong while still having relatively easy access to Seoul Station.
10. New Kukje Hotel ★★★
Best For
- Budget travelers
- Couples
- Sightseeing
New Kukje Hotel has welcomed travelers for decades and remains a practical, budget-friendly choice if location matters more to you than having the latest hotel design.
The interiors are more traditional than some of the newer hotels on this list, but the central location is the real selling point. You’ll be close to City Hall and Deoksugung Palace, with Namdaemun Market and other central Seoul attractions within easy reach.
Think of New Kukje as a City Hall sightseeing base with convenient access to Seoul Station rather than a true station hotel. If you’re looking for an affordable base for sightseeing and don’t mind taking a short taxi or subway ride when you need the station, it can offer good value.
Pros
✅ Affordable rates
✅ Central location near City Hall
✅ Convenient for sightseeing
✅ Good option for value-conscious travelers
Cons
❌ Interiors feel older than newer hotels
❌ Basic facilities compared with four-star options
Distance to Seoul Station: Better reached by a short taxi or public transportation ride, or a longer walk if you’re traveling light.
Best reason to book: New Kukje is best suited if affordability and a central sightseeing location matter more than being immediately beside Seoul Station.
11. Sotetsu Fresa Inn Seoul Myeongdong ★★★
Best For
- Budget travelers
- Solo travelers
- Couples
Sotetsu Fresa Inn Seoul Myeongdong is another solid Japanese hotel option if you value efficiency, cleanliness, and a central location without spending a fortune.
Rooms are compact but cleverly designed, with Sealy beds, free Wi-Fi, and everything you need for a comfortable city stay. Self check-in and check-out machines keep things simple, while useful extras like coin laundry make it particularly practical if Seoul is one stop on a longer Korea trip.
The trade-off is location: you’re swapping immediate access to Seoul Station for a much better position in the heart of Myeongdong. You’ll be right among Myeongdong’s shops, restaurants, and street food, while Seoul Station is better reached by public transportation or taxi when you’re traveling with luggage.
Pros
✅ Excellent Myeongdong location
✅ Comfortable Sealy beds
✅ Self check-in and check-out
✅ Coin laundry available
Cons
❌ Compact rooms
❌ Less convenient for KTX and AREX travelers
Distance to Seoul Station: Best reached by a short taxi or public transportation ride, especially with luggage.
Best reason to book: The strongest reason to stay here is if you want an affordable, efficient stay in the heart of Myeongdong while keeping Seoul Station within easy reach.
12. Hotel Thomas ★★★
Best For
- Budget travelers
- Couples
- Sightseeing
- Travelers looking for a hidden gem
Hotel Thomas Myeongdong is a great little find if you’re looking for an affordable stay in central Seoul without sacrificing comfort or location.
The hotel sits close to City Hall, Namdaemun Market, and Deoksugung Palace, making it particularly convenient for sightseeing. Rooms are simple but modern and come with useful amenities, while the quieter location is a nice bonus after a busy day exploring Seoul.
Despite the name, you’re actually closer to City Hall than the heart of Myeongdong. Seoul Station isn’t immediately nearby but it’s a strong option if you want good value and easy access to central Seoul while keeping the station within relatively easy reach.
Pros
✅ Good value for central Seoul
✅ Convenient for City Hall and Namdaemun
✅ Modern, practical rooms
✅ Quiet location
Cons
❌ Limited hotel facilities
❌ Not as convenient for KTX travelers
Distance to Seoul Station: Allow around 15 to 20 minutes on foot, or take a short taxi or public transportation ride with luggage.
Best reason to book: Hotel Thomas is a smart choice for a quiet, affordable base near City Hall and Namdaemun without paying central Seoul’s higher hotel prices.
Which Hotel Near Seoul Station Should You Choose?
Still not sure which hotel is right for your trip? Here’s a quick overview of my top recommendations based on different travel styles.
Linda’s Take
If you’re only visiting Seoul and want to be close to shopping and nightlife, you might prefer staying in Myeongdong or Hongdae.
But if you’re planning a wider trip around Korea, I genuinely think Seoul Station is one of the smartest places to base yourself. Being able to walk straight onto the AREX after a flight or hop on a KTX to Busan without dragging your luggage across the city makes a huge difference.
Personally, Four Points by Sheraton Josun would still be my first choice for most travelers. It isn’t the cheapest hotel on this list, but the location is hard to beat, and that extra convenience is something you’ll appreciate throughout your trip.
Have Some Time Before Your Train? Here’s What to Do Near Seoul Station
One of the biggest advantages of staying near Seoul Station is that you don’t have to spend your entire day sitting in the station waiting for your train.
If you’ve checked out of your hotel early, have a few hours before your KTX departs, or simply want to explore the area after arriving from Incheon Airport, there are several attractions within easy walking distance.
Here are my favorite ways to spend a few hours without venturing too far from the station.
Browse Namdaemun Market
If you only have time for one stop, make it Namdaemun Market.
Around a 10-minute walk from Seoul Station, Korea’s oldest traditional market is packed with street food, local snacks, souvenirs, clothing, and household goods. It’s a great place to grab lunch before catching your train or pick up some last-minute gifts.
Take a Walk Along Seoullo 7017
If you’ve spent hours on a plane or train, stretching your legs along Seoullo 7017 is surprisingly enjoyable.
The former elevated highway has been transformed into a pedestrian walkway lined with gardens, cafés, and viewpoints overlooking central Seoul. It starts almost directly outside Seoul Station, making it one of the easiest attractions to visit if you’re short on time.
Walk to Myeongdong
If your train isn’t for another few hours, Myeongdong is only around a 15 to 20-minute walk away.
Whether you’re shopping for Korean skincare, grabbing some street food, or simply wandering the busy streets, it’s an easy way to make the most of a free afternoon before heading back to Seoul Station.
Visit Deoksugung Palace
For something a little quieter, Deoksugung Palace is about a 20-minute walk from the station.
It’s one of Seoul’s smaller royal palaces, but its elegant architecture, peaceful grounds, and Royal Guard Changing Ceremony make it well worth a visit if you’re interested in Korean history.
Grab a Coffee Before You Leave
If you’re simply waiting for your train, the area around Seoul Station has no shortage of cafés.
Whether you prefer a quick coffee before boarding the KTX or somewhere comfortable to catch up on emails, you’ll find plenty of options around the station and along Seoullo 7017.
How Do You Get Around from Seoul Station?
One of the biggest reasons I recommend staying near Seoul Station is that getting around Seoul—and the rest of South Korea—is incredibly easy.
Whether you’re catching a high-speed train to Busan, heading to Incheon Airport, or exploring Seoul’s neighborhoods, you’ll have some of the country’s best transport links right on your doorstep.
Walking
Many of central Seoul’s most popular attractions are within easy walking distance, making it possible to spend an entire day sightseeing without using public transport.
From Seoul Station, you can walk to:
| Attraction | Approximate Walking Time |
|---|---|
| Seoullo 7017 | 2–5 minutes |
| Namdaemun Market | 10 minutes |
| Myeongdong | 15–20 minutes |
| Deoksugung Palace | 20 minutes |
| N Seoul Tower (via Namsan Park) | 25–35 minutes |
During spring and autumn, walking is often the most enjoyable way to explore central Seoul.
By Subway
Seoul Station is served by Subway Lines 1 and 4, giving you direct access to many of Seoul’s most popular neighborhoods.
With one easy transfer, you can also reach places like Hongdae, Gangnam, Itaewon, Insadong, Jamsil, and COEX.
The Seoul Metro is clean, affordable, and easy to navigate, making it a great option even if it’s your first visit to Korea.
Airport Transfers
One of the biggest advantages of staying here is the direct connection to Incheon International Airport via the AREX (Airport Railroad Express).
You can choose between the non-stop Express Train or the more affordable All Stop Train, both of which depart directly from Seoul Station.
If you’re arriving after a long-haul flight or catching an early departure, it’s hard to beat the convenience of walking a few minutes from your hotel to the train.
Travel Around Korea by KTX
If your itinerary includes destinations beyond Seoul, you’ll quickly appreciate having Korea’s high-speed rail network on your doorstep.
From Seoul Station, you can easily travel to:
- Busan
- Daegu
- Daejeon
- Ulsan
- Gyeongju (via Singyeongju/Gyeongju KTX Station)
- Jeonju (with one transfer)
Instead of spending your morning crossing Seoul with your luggage, you can simply walk to the station, grab a coffee, and board your train.
Linda’s Take
This is one of the biggest reasons I recommend Seoul Station over many other neighborhoods for travelers.
When you’re carrying luggage, every extra subway transfer feels like hard work. Being able to walk from your hotel to the AREX or KTX in just a few minutes makes traveling around Korea noticeably easier—and that’s something you’ll appreciate at both the start and end of your trip.
Seoul Station vs Myeongdong: Which Area Is Better?
This is one of the most common questions travelers ask when planning a trip to Seoul, and the answer really comes down to your travel style.
Both neighborhoods are centrally located, well connected by public transportation, and within walking distance of some of Seoul’s biggest attractions. However, they offer very different experiences.
If convenience and transportation are your priorities, Seoul Station is hard to beat. If shopping, street food, and nightlife are at the top of your list, Myeongdong is usually the better choice.
Here’s how they compare.
| Seoul Station | Myeongdong |
|---|---|
| Best for transportation | Best for shopping |
| Direct KTX access | Countless shops and department stores |
| Direct AREX airport connection | Famous street food scene |
| Quieter in the evenings | Much livelier atmosphere |
| Great for multi-city itineraries | Better for first-time visitors staying only in Seoul |
| Easier when traveling with luggage | More hotels surrounded by restaurants and cafés |
Choose Seoul Station If…
I’d recommend staying near Seoul Station if you:
- Plan to travel to Busan, Gyeongju, or other cities by KTX.
- Have an early flight or late arrival.
- Want the easiest connection to Incheon Airport.
- Prefer a quieter base after a busy day of sightseeing.
- Are traveling with large suitcases or multiple bags.
For anyone planning a multi-city Korea itinerary, I think Seoul Station is one of the smartest places to stay. You’ll spend far less time navigating public transport with your luggage and much more time enjoying your trip.
Choose Myeongdong If…
Myeongdong is probably a better fit if you:
- Love shopping.
- Want restaurants and cafés right outside your hotel.
- Plan to spend your evenings exploring street food markets.
- Are visiting Seoul for just a few days and don’t intend to travel elsewhere in Korea.
- Enjoy being in the middle of the action.
It’s one of Seoul’s busiest tourist districts, which means there’s always something happening—but it can also feel crowded, especially during weekends and peak travel seasons.
My Recommendation
If you’re spending three or four days in Seoul and don’t plan to leave the city, I’d probably lean towards Myeongdong. It’s lively, central, and puts many of Seoul’s most popular attractions within easy reach.
However, if your itinerary includes places like Busan, Gyeongju, Jeonju, or Daegu—or you simply value convenience—I think Seoul Station is the better choice.
Living in Korea, I’ve used Seoul Station as the starting point for countless trips around the country and I’ve really come to appreciate how much easier it makes traveling. Being able to walk to the AREX after an international flight or roll your suitcase straight onto the KTX without crossing the city might not sound exciting, but it’s the kind of convenience you’ll be grateful for throughout your trip.
For me, that’s what gives Seoul Station the edge.

Is Seoul Station a good area to stay in Seoul?
Yes, especially if convenience is your priority. Seoul Station is one of the best areas to stay if you’re planning to travel around South Korea by KTX, have an early flight, or want the easiest connection to Incheon Airport via the AREX train. While it isn’t as lively as Myeongdong or Hongdae, it’s an excellent base for exploring both Seoul and the rest of the country.
How far is Seoul Station from Incheon Airport?
The AREX Express Train takes around 45 to 50 minutes to travel between Incheon International Airport and Seoul Station. A more affordable All Stop Train is also available, although it takes slightly longer as it stops at additional stations along the way.
Can you walk from Seoul Station to Myeongdong?
Absolutely. Most visitors can walk from Seoul Station to Myeongdong in around 15 to 20 minutes. The route is mostly flat and passes Namdaemun Market, making it an enjoyable walk during the day.
Is Seoul Station safe at night?
Yes. Seoul Station is generally a safe area, even after dark. As one of Korea’s busiest transportation hubs, there’s usually plenty of activity throughout the day and evening. Like anywhere, it’s sensible to keep an eye on your belongings in crowded areas, but violent crime is extremely rare.
Which hotels are closest to Seoul Station?
Some of the closest and most convenient hotels include:
- Four Points by Sheraton Josun, Seoul Station
- Hotel Manu

- Fraser Place Namdaemun
All are within an easy walk of the station, making them ideal if you’re traveling with luggage or catching an early KTX train.
Is Seoul Station a good base for visiting Busan or other cities?
Definitely. If you’re planning to visit destinations such as Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, or Gyeongju, staying near Seoul Station makes your journey much easier. Instead of crossing Seoul with your luggage, you can simply walk to the station and board the KTX.
Should I stay near Seoul Station or Hongdae?
It depends on the type of trip you’re planning. If you want nightlife, cafés, and a youthful atmosphere, Hongdae is the better choice. If convenience, airport transfers, and traveling around Korea are your priorities, I’d recommend staying near Seoul Station.
Are there good restaurants near Seoul Station?
Yes. While the area is quieter than Myeongdong, you’ll still find plenty of excellent dining options, from traditional Korean restaurants and casual noodle shops to modern cafés and rooftop bars. You’re also just a short walk from Namdaemun Market, where you can sample some of Seoul’s best street food.
Is the Seoul Station area good for tourists?
Yes. While it’s less glamorous than Myeongdong or Hongdae, the Seoul Station area is excellent for tourists who value convenience. You can walk to Namdaemun Market, Seoullo 7017, Myeongdong, and Deoksugung Palace, while having direct access to the KTX and AREX for traveling beyond Seoul.
Still not sure where to stay? For most travelers, I’d choose Four Points by Sheraton Josun, Seoul Station for the easiest access to the KTX and AREX. Families who want more space should take a look at ENA Suite Hotel Namdaemun, while couples planning something special will love L’Escape Hotel.
Final Thoughts: Is Seoul Station the Right Place to Stay?
If convenience is your top priority, it’s hard to beat Seoul Station.
Whether you’re arriving from Incheon Airport on the AREX, planning to explore Korea by KTX, or simply looking for a well-connected base in central Seoul, staying near the station makes getting around incredibly easy. Instead of spending your trip navigating multiple subway lines with your luggage, you’ll be able to walk to your hotel, catch your train, and spend more time enjoying your holiday.
That said, Seoul Station isn’t for everyone. If your ideal trip revolves around shopping until late at night, discovering trendy cafés, or experiencing Seoul’s nightlife, you’ll probably be happier staying in neighborhoods like Myeongdong or Hongdae.
But if you’re planning a multi-city itinerary—or you simply appreciate hassle-free travel—I genuinely think Seoul Station is one of the most underrated places to stay in the city.

Linda’s Take
I’ve used Seoul Station as the starting point for countless trips around Korea, whether it was hopping on the KTX to Busan, meeting friends arriving from overseas, or catching the AREX back to Incheon Airport. Every time, I’m reminded just how much easier it makes traveling.
It’s not the flashiest neighborhood in Seoul, and it doesn’t pretend to be. What it offers is something many travelers end up appreciating even more: convenience.
Being able to roll your suitcase to the station in just a few minutes, rather than squeezing onto a crowded subway with all your luggage, might seem like a small thing. But after a long flight or before an early morning train, it’s the kind of convenience that can make your entire trip feel smoother.
If that’s the kind of trip you’re looking for, I don’t think you’ll regret staying near Seoul Station.
