SPA 1899 was created by Korea Ginseng Corporation, the world’s leading expert in red ginseng since 1899. The spa offers a variety of spa treatments involving products made of red ginseng. The treatments at Spa 1899 Donginbi are based on ancient Korean care methods using 6-year-old red ginseng.

The Benefits of Red Ginseng

Red ginseng has been an integral and very valuable part of traditional Korean medicine for centuries. To reveal its healing properties and benefits, the red ginseng is unpeeled and steamed for about three hours before being slowly dried. This process transforms the root into a very effective anti-aging and beauty ingredient.

Historic records reveal that red ginseng was used for the treatment of body ailments since ancient times. During the Joseon Dynasty, royal women at court used red ginseng in tea to enhance their skin texture and they also added ginseng blossoms to their baths to soften their skin.

Multi Care Experience

I had the chance to try out Spa 1899 Donginbi’s 2-hour multi care experience. With this package, you can choose between either facial + upper body treatments (option A), full body + foot treatments (option B) or facial + full body treatments (option C).

Option A, the facial and upper body treatment, seemed like a great choice (it’s also the most popular option at the spa).

The spa experience starts as soon as you set foot into the spa, where you are not only greeted by friendly staff but also by a fragrant scent of red ginseng and relaxing music.

The waiting area showcases the most popular Donginbi red ginseng products, that they also sell in their spa and in various beauty stores across the country. While you are waiting for the room to be prepared, you can enjoy delicious red ginseng tea and also try your way through the Donginbi skincare line.

Red Ginseng Treatments

After having the delicious red ginseng tea, the spa experience begins. First, you are led to the private spa room, undress, and change into a comfortable robe. Then, the multi care experience begins with a red ginseng foot bath.

Next is upper body care. This entails a deep-tissue back massage with red ginseng oil. After a thorough back massage, you turn over and the second part of the experience begins.

During the decollete massage, the therapist gently massages your face in relaxing, circular motions and extends the motion to your neck as well.

If you wear makeup, your face is gently cleansed before continuing with peeling, steaming, and moisturizing treatments.

I absolutely loved this treatment, especially because of the fragrant smell of red ginseng, which also made me even more calm and relaxed.

The facial was amazing and my skin felt incredible for many days afterward.
