Checking In: Hotel ICON Hong Kong in Tsim Sha Tsui

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Hong Kong is often referred to as Asia’s World City and with good reason. You’ll find here something for everyone; great food, a vibrant culture, bustling city vibes, fabulous hikes, and Disneyland! Every area of the city has its own distinct features, which is why it’s not so easy to find the right hotel in Hong Kong. However, I’ve found the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for modern luxury: Hotel ICON in the Tsim Sha Tsui district.

About Hotel ICON Hong Kong

Hotel ICON is a relatively new hotel in Hong Kong and has caught the attention of many travelers since it opened its doors. The hotel puts great emphasis on showcasing Hong Kong’s cultural spirit through its interior design as well as the food and drinks offered at its three award-winning restaurants. What’s more is that Hotel ICON is implementing the latest innovation and technologies in hospitality to create a sustainable travel experience for its guests.

In the ICON universe, students, teachers, and seasoned hospitality professionals come together with one aim: to make your stay utterly memorable and pleasurable. Stay with us if you are design conscious, like to eat and drink well, enjoy a beautiful view and want to be spoiled! Hotel ICON

Location in the heart of Hong Kong

Hotel ICON is located in Kowloon’s Tsim Sha Tsui area, the bustling heart of Hong Kong. I loved staying at this central location because it’s so close to major attractions and ideal for experiencing the vibrancy of Hong Kong.

The hotel shuttle bus allows you to easily get to the nearest points of interest, such as the world-famous Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade to see the iconic Hong Kong Harbour. However, Hotel ICON also encourages guests to explore beyond the tourist spots and recommends a lot of hidden gems in their own Hotel ICON Guide.

Design Inspired By Hong Kong

What immediately caught my eye at Hotel ICON are the many beautiful art pieces and installations that “reflect Hong Kong’s cultural spirit and showcase the creative visions of local talents”. I especially loved the amazing painting of the Hong Kong night view from Victoria Peak in at Above and Beyond (can be seen in the photo with the breakfast buffet below).

Hotel ICON features artwork from local Hong Kong and international artists, including Rocco Yim, Terence Conran, Patrick Blanc, William Lim, Tommy Li, Barney Cheng and Freeman Lau.

As I care a lot about the environment, I was especially pleased to find out that Hotel ICON takes the topic very seriously as well and adopt the latest innovation and technologies. For example, they have installed a special filtration and purification water system in their guestrooms to reduce the use of plastic bottles.

On top of that, Hotel ICON also has eco-friendly bathroom amenities and laundry bags. Even the hotel shuttle bus has been fully electric since 2012. Last but not least, Hotel ICON also donates all surplus edible food items from their restaurants to Food Angels, an organization that provides healthy food for local families in need.

Sweet Treats at GREEN

If you have a sweet tooth, I highly recommend checking out the afternoon tea option at GREEN on the ground floor of Hotel ICON. The afternoon tea set is changing regularly to bring new and exciting flavors onto the tables.

When I was there at the beginning of 2019, the afternoon tea set was “cacao” themed with lots of rich chocolate-y treats. Even if you aren’t staying at Hotel ICON, you should still check out this delicious afternoon tea set when in Hong Kong!

Can you guess why this lounge is called GREEN?

Club 36 Room at a Glance

The first thing you notice when stepping into this gorgeous room is the breathtaking view of the legendary Harbour. The room is also bigger than other rooms I have stayed at in Hong Kong, where hotel rooms tend to be on the smaller spectrum.

All over the room, you find smart design, technology and accessories pleasing the eye. The large desk is perfect for those who need to catch up on some work and the seating area is ideal to watch the vibrant Harbour. A huge perk is also the smartphone and portable charger that can be used by guests throughout their stay in Hong Kong to navigate through the city.

Breakfast Buffet At Hotel ICON

While breakfast is served at The Market on the second floor of Hotel ICON, club members can also enjoy breakfast on the 28th floor with stunning views of the Harbour. Hotel ICON’s breakfast buffet has been named “Best Buffet in Hong Kong” for seven years in a row by OpenRice, Hong Kong’s most popular food guide.

Freshly baked pastries, organic eggs station, dim sum, congee, and stir-fried noodles, there’s something here for everyone! I also loved the selection of gluten-free breads and pastries for those with dietary restrictions. On top of that, we also tried the French Toast and were absolutely blown away by it!

What a way to start the day!

ICON Rooftop Pool

Another amazing feature of Hotel ICON is the swimming pool and relaxation area on the 9th floor. The pool is heated and overlooks Hong Kong’s iconic harbor and skyline. Besides the pool, you can also take a refreshing break in the Pool Bar and out on the deck, or work it at the 24-hour fitness center facing the beautiful harbor.

A timeless blend of Hong Kong heritage and modernity, Hotel ICON impressed me with its elegant rooms and impeccable service. The staff went above and beyond to make my stay as comfortable as possible, which they completely achieved. Hotel ICON has become my accommodation of choice in Hong Kong and you should check it out also!
