Checking In: Living Hotel an der Oper by Derag, Vienna, Austria

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Vienna is one of the most popular cities in Europe and even tops the list of the best city in the world for quality of living, for nine years in a row. I was recently invited to stay at Living Hotel an der Oper by Derag, a four-star property located in the heart of Vienna and here is what it’s like staying there.

Universal Design with Local Charm

The 4-star Living Hotel an der Oper is situated only a stones-throw away from Vienna’s most famous shopping street: the Kärntner Straße. The entire hotel perfectly displays the power and legacy of the former Austrian Empire in a contemporary way. Exquisite fabrics, heavy-weight rugs and selected art meets different colored walls and retro furniture. It’s a true pleasure for the eyes.

Some of the other comfortable services at the hotel include:

  • Airport Shuttle (additional charge)
  • Air Conditioning
  • Hypoallergenic Room Available
  • Wake-up service
  • Hardwood/Parquet floors
  • Heating
  • Tile/Marble floor
  • Soundproof
  • Private entrance
  • Laptop safe
  • Soundproof Rooms
  • Family Rooms
  • Non-smoking Rooms

Superb Location in the center of Vienna

What I loved about the hotel is its excellent location in the “First District”, the downtown area of Vienna. It’s so close to all the main attractions that you won’t have to take any public transportation. Some of the attractions near the hotel include the “Karlskirche”, the world-famous “Vienna Opera House”, the “Stephansdom” and the “Museum Quarter” – all of which can easily be reached on foot.

Delicious Breakfast Buffet

While the Living Hotel an der Oper doesn’t run its own in-house restaurant, you can enjoy a vast breakfast buffet with a great variety of hot food, cheeses and sausages as well as many different breads and cakes. However, some of the finest restaurants in the city are also closeby. Just on the other site of the street, for example, you will find Soprano, one of Vienna’s best culinary addresses. The best part is, you can order directly to your room!

The Rooms In Detail

There are different room types available for all budgets and preferences, all cozy and homely furnished, ideal for families and business travelers alike. Room sizes vary from 35 sqm up to 84 sqm and serviced apartments even have a full kitchen.

I stayed at one of the superior rooms with high ceilings and beautiful retro furniture. The room was very large, which made me feel like at home instantly. I still remember how comfortable the bed was – it was hard not to hit that snooze button up in the morning!
