Checking In: Living Hotel Prinzessin Elisabeth by Derag, Munich
Munich is one of the most visited cities in Germany – and with good reason. The city attracts with centuries-old buildings, numerous museums and its unique beer culture, such as the famous Hofbräuhaus, founded in 1589 and the annual Oktoberfest celebration. Visitors to Munich can also explore the many Neo-Gothic landmarks, especially Neues Rathaus (town hall), with a popular glockenspiel show that chimes and reenacts stories from the 16th century. Munich is without a doubt my favorite city to visit in Germany where I was recently invited to stay at Living Hotel Prinzessin Elisabeth by Derag, a four-star property located in Munich’s Old Town in the Glockenbach quarter.

Universal Design with Local Charm
This 4-star hotel is situated in the heart of Munich´s old town on the bank of the Isar River. The location is perfect for exploring all the exciting things Munich has to offer, while being able to relax and enjoy a bit of serenity in between your travels.
As soon as you set foot into the lobby area of the hotel, you will understand where its got its name from. The beautiful décor is Bavarian royal-themed, focusing on the famous “Sisi” princess that was born in Bavaria but moved to Vienna to marry the heir to the throne. A bit more of the historic background: Elisabeth of Bavaria (24 December 1837 – 10 September 1898) was Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary by marriage to Emperor Franz Joseph I. They lived in Vienna’s Schönbrunn Palace most of their life.
The hotel also features a large spa area with a Finnish sauna, a 24-hour fitness center and guests can book Ayurvedic massages.

Superb Location in the heart of Munich
One of the most attractive points about this lovely hotel is its excellent location. Situated on the left bank of the Isar river and in the popular Glockenback quarter of Munich, travelers interested in architecture, old town exploring and, of course, beer, will find plenty to see and do here.
Top-rated attractions such as the „German Museum“ and the famous Oktoberfest grounds are just a few steps away. You can reach Marienplatz, the center of Munich either by foot within 25 minutes or by bus in 10.

Great Local and International Cuisine
The Living Hotel Prinzessin Elisabeth houses one of the best up-and-coming restaurants in town. Shane’s offers a modern mix of European and Asian dishes with an exciting surprise menu tailored to your individual taste buds. The restaurant is open in the evenings from 6 pm and closed Sunday and Monday.
Of course, you can also enjoy a delicious breakfast with a great variety of hot food, cheeses and sausages as well as many different breads and cakes.

The Rooms In Detail
There is a variation of room types available for all budgets and preferences. All rooms at the Living Hotel Prinzessin Elisabeth are serviced apartments, meaning they all feature a completely furnished kitchen or kitchenette.
I stayed in their beautiful maisonette room with two floors. There are a small kitchenette and a small bathroom and a spacious dining and living room area on the first level. The second level features a large king size bed and a big bathroom with a bathtub. The large window and open layout of the maisonette room make this option very popular among guests.
