The 15 Best Things To Eat, See and Do in Garosugil
Garosugil, the area between Sinsa and Apgujeong Station in Gangnam, has long been one of my favorite places to hang out. It’s a lovely tree-lined street and countless side alleyways with lovely cafes, stores, and interesting things to see. Here are the best things to eat, see and do in Garosugil, Seoul.
Address: 518-10 Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul
This is a cute little gelato place offering new, exciting flavors each month. The makgeolli gelato is what made me step through the door here – and I’m so glad I did! I paired mine with a creamy 쌀 rice gelato, which was sublime. You can get 2 flavors of your choice for 5,000 KRW here. Be sure to check out the seasonal menu and try something new each month.
Ader Space 3.0
Address: 518-11 Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul
The off-beat fashion brand Ader Error takes experimental retail to a whole new level with its otherworldly store locations across Seoul. Their flagship store in Sinsa offers bizarre gimmicks like a door to a changing room opening into a noraebang singing room, while another opens to a room with bunk beds and a projector showing a movie. In order to get to their in-house cafe, you need to pass through a haunted hotel hallway. While you might not necessarily need $150 socks with holes, you will certainly enjoy the entertaining interior design aspects of Ader Space 3.0 when you visit.
Address: 25 Dosan-daero 11-gil, Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul
The popular milk tea brand established by Taiwanese singer Jay Chou now also has a location in Sinsa! Machimachi is not only famous for its delicious Taiwanese milk teas but also other fresh tea varieties topped with delicious cream cheese foam. If you’re into tea, you don’t want to miss trying one of these!
Dr. Jart Flagship Store
I’m a huge fan of Korean skin care and the brand Dr. Jart is among my favorites. Founded in 2004, two dermatologists launched the brand under the name ‘Dermaster’ with products exclusively available at dermatological clinics around Korea. The products have caught positive attention and they rebranded to Dr. Jart. Today, the brand is available in 15 countries across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America. Dr. Jart has a large flagship store in Garosugil. The interior looks like a lab and you can try out and purchase their products on two floors.

Simone Handbag Museum
This museum is a must for every fashionista. It has over 300 handbags from around the world on display, dating from the 15th century to today. The museum is divided into two exhibitions: Twentieth Century and Contemporary, and Historic (1500-1900). The museum is located inside a 10-storey building that looks like a huge bag itself. The building also houses a store selling bag materials, coworking spaces where up-and-coming Korean designers can work rent-free, as well as an area where craftsmen will produce bags.

Another popular makeup brand, 3CE, operates a lovely themed store in Garosugil. Called 3CE Cinema, the movie-themed cosmetics store is equipped with luxurious makeup booths with colorful lighting in a variety of pink colors. There are various themed-areas inside the store, such as a “Beauty & Salon” and a market.

Maman Gateau 마망갸또
Those born with a sweet-tooth will love Maman Gateau. They make their own caramel on their signature caramel Bingsu. Besides the golden sweet delight, the café also sells various delicious ades and pastries that you can also take to-go. To my surprise, the caramel Bingsu was not as sweet as regular caramel, which was certainly a good thing as the portion is huge. You can certainly taste that the caramel is home-made. Absolutely yummy!
Steve J & Yoni P
The most famous Korean designer couple Steve J and Yoni P also have a lovely store in Garosugil. Whether you are looking for eye-catching pieces of clothing or casual wear, you’ll definitely find something here. The designers are also well-known for using a lot of denim in their collections. The fashion duo is also an essential part of the bi-annual Seoul Fashion Week.

I’m obsessed with milk tea! Hailing all the way from Taiwan, The Alley offers a very delicious Brown Sugar Tapioca Milk Tea that is just to die for! Besides the original brown sugar version, you can also get a green tea or choco version of the popular tea. Other than that, The Alley also offers other delicious hot and cold beverages.
As an avid matcha lover, I was super excited to spot this new addition to Garosugil! In fact, Super Matcha is locate in a multicultural ‘street alley’ building in Sinsadong with multiple floors and a variety of shops and restaurants – the top floor is a wide open rooftop.
Super Matcha is a great option for low-carb eaters as they use the natural herb “Stevia” or sweetner from the fruit “Erythritol” crating sweet, tasty and healthy drinks. They offer a variety of different matcha options (I tried their Matcha Chai Latte – and it was divine) and their signature item is “The Tea Cone”, which is a delicious swirl of Matcha and Black Coconut soft serve. You can also purchase their matcha blends to make the delicious drinks at home!
The Original Pancake House
While their first store opened in Portland in 1953, The Original Pancake House has expanded to various parts of Japan and South Korea in recent years. One of their outlets can be found in Seoul’s Garosugil district and is has become a popular breakfast and brunch place in the city. Especially foreigners living in South Korea appreciate the authentic taste of the meals served here.
If you haven’t heard about the eyewear brand Gentle Monster yet, pick up your ears. “Experimentation” is the motto of Gentle Monster’s creations, resulting in edgy and futuristic designs – not only for their glasses but also the interior of their flagship stores. The one in Garosugil is revamped continuously so you’ll never know what it will look like next time you pop in.

Gallery Yeh 예화랑
Showcasing traditional and modern art by Korean as well as international masters, Gallery Yeh has become a popular place to art lovers. However, architects also appreciate the fascinating building itself. If you, too, are a fan of futuristic urban structures and high-quality art, head over to Gallery Yeh.
This café is part of the Maison Kitsuné store and is located in a beautiful backstreet location with a courtyard-esque outside seating area. It’s a great place to relax inbetween shopping in Garosugil. I grabbed a flat white and their signature “financier” in matcha flavor (obvisouly) and spent 12,000 KRW. It’s pricey but the coffee and fancy muffin were both very delicious.
The word “kitsune” actually translates to a mystical “fox” in Japanese folklore, which is why you find traces of foxes in the packaging, décor and accessories at Café Kitsuné.
This awesome hummus and falafel place opened in late 2018 and has already gained massive popularity. Chickpeace specializes in pita sandwiches and meat, rice, and salad type platters. Definitely one of my new favorites in Garosugil – very tasty!
When are you heading to Garosugil?
The best part about Garosugil is, that it is always changing. That means, every time you re-visit, there will be new and exciting things to see. Garosugil is a great area for anyone interested in trends, fashion and food.
