Seoul Sky – Seoul’s Highest Observation Deck

Reading Time: 2 minutes

It’s only been a few months since Lotte World Tower opened on April 3, 2017. Currently the tallest building in Korea and Seoul‘s highest observation deck, the tower offers incredible views from the top 5 floors, conveniently called ‘Seoul Sky’. On these five highest floors, visitors have the chance to get incredible 360-views of the entire city of Seoul with landmarks such as Namsan Tower, Olympic Park or the Han River all visible. Here’s what you need to know about Seoul Sky and when to visit.

Where?

Seoul Sky (서울 스카이) is not only the tallest point in Seoul but also the third highest observation deck in the world. It is located on the upper floors (117-123F) of Seoul’s tallest building, Lotte World Tower. The tower is near Jamsil Station in Songpa-gu east of Gangnam.

What?

Seoul Sky has broken three Guinness World Records. Its sky deck on the 118th floor holds the title “World’s Highest Glass-Floored Observation Deck”, and the Seoul Sky elevator holds the remaining two world records. It is both the elevator covering the longest distance and the fastest double-deck elevator in the world reaching a speed of 600 meters per minute.

You board the elevator on levels B1 or B2 and are then rewarded with a short but amazing ride featuring the development of Seoul over time through an animation projected on all four walls and the ceiling of the elevator. It was truly the most amazing elevator ride of my life.

Five Levels of 360-views of Seoul and more!

Once you arrive at the 118th floor, you can explore not only one but five levels of observation deck connected through elevators, escalators, and stairs. It’s the biggest observation deck area I’ve ever seen. On top of that, you not only have views of Seoul and its most famous landmarks, such as Seoul Tower, Han River, the Olympic Stadium or Lotte World just below, you see as far as Songdo, Incheon and can even spot the Yellow Sea on a clear day – that’s how high the tower is!

Highlights of Seoul Sky definitely are the transparent glass floors jutting facing north and south, as well as the open air observatory one floor up.

Lotte World Mall Highlights

Since you need to pass Lotte World Mall to get to Lotte World Tower, there are quite a few interesting attractions housed in this mall itself. For example, there is a permanent ‘Hallyu‘ (Korean Wave) section with all kinds of K-Pop and K-drama action going on. You can take a photo with Kim Soo-Hyun or Lee Minho, dance with SuperJunior and 2PM or touch a handprint of one of your favorite idols. We also had a look at a temporary Barbie exhibition featuring some of the earliest dolls. It was fabulous!
