Nami Island and The Garden Of The Morning Calm With Trazy Korea

I recently had the opportunity to visit both Nami Island and The Garden of the Morning Calm in a one-day tour organized by English-speaking tour provider Trazy.com in South Korea. Both locations are located east of Seoul and make for the ideal weekend getaway from the crowded capital! If you’re looking for a relaxing day surrounded by lush, green nature, this tour is for you!

What is Trazy?

The fact that it is quite difficult for foreign travelers to find out about unique festivals, events and seasonal destinations around Korea gave the two friends Jahyun and Kristine the inspiration to create Trazy, or Travel Crazy Korea! I joined a day tour called ‘Seoul Vicinity: Nami Island and Garden of Morning Calm’ with Trazy in May. 

Nami Island

I joined the tour to Nami Island and the Garden of the Morning Calm with my fellow blogger friend Gina (Gina Bear’s Blog). There are two meeting points in Seoul, one in Hongdae and the other one in Myeongdong. Our tour guide Scott was super friendly and his English was flawless. We hopped on the air-conditioned van with a group of other tourers and took off.

Located about 1.5-2 hours away from Seoul depending on traffic, Nami Island is a popular destination for couples, friends, and families to spend a day out or a whole weekend away from the city. The half-moon shaped island spans around 4 kilometers and offers visitors a little bit of everything. You can wander through green gardens, rent bikes, zip-line across the river and watch ostriches. The island is also famous for the Korean drama Winter Sonata which was filmed here in 2001.

We arrived at the island at about 9:40 in the morning and had free time until 2 PM. Gina and I explored all that the island had to offer, grabbed a bite to eat and relaxed on a picnic blanket we brought with us in the middle of a beautiful garden.

The Garden of the Morning Calm

We headed back to the ferry terminal where Scott was waiting for us to head to our next and final stop: The Garden of the Morning Calm. It only took about 30 minutes to get there from Nami Island. We had a little over 2 hours to explore the beautiful Garden of the Morning Calm. The inspiration for the garden came from a poem written by Indian poet Sir Tagore. In the poem, he described Korea during the Joseon Dynasty as “The Land of the Morning Calm.”

The garden is home to about 5,000 kinds of plants. Flowers here bloom from March to November, making those the best times to visit the garden. Gina and I took amazing photos all around the garden and grabbed delicious drinks at the teahouse in the back of the garden. It was the perfect ending to an amazing day outdoors exploring some of Korea’s finest attractions.
